My Number Was Flagged as Spam. Now What?

We all get annoyed when an incoming call is shown as spam. They interrupt your daily routine or important activities and are a waste of time, often involving pre-recorded messages or lengthy sales pitches that may not be relevant or useful to you.

Why are calls marked as spam?

  1. Automated Call Blocking: Many mobile carriers and phone companies have automated call-blocking features that use sophisticated algorithms to identify spam and robocalls. These systems analyze call metadata such as the number, location, and frequency of calls, and then block or flag calls that match known spam patterns.

  2. User Reports: Users can report unwanted or spam calls to their mobile carrier or phone company. These reports are used to create spam lists that are shared with other carriers and phone companies to help identify and block spam calls.

  3. Scamming and phishing: Calls may be marked as spam if they are part of a scam or phishing scheme. In these cases, the caller may attempt to trick the recipient into giving away personal information or money.

  4. Caller ID Spoofing: Caller ID spoofing is when a caller falsifies their phone number to appear as a local or familiar number. Scammers and spammers often use this technique to make their calls appear legitimate and can cause legitimate calls to be mistakenly marked as spam.

But my phone number is legitimate, why am I being marked as spam?

Your Caller ID will show "spam?" before the caller's name that has been identified as a possible unsolicited call. The recipient's carrier may have marked the number as spam, causing this issue. It is also possible that spammers/scammers are spoofing the DID, which makes the providers identify it as spam.
